Fall was in the air here in Toronto, but it seems to have left. The weather forecast promises cooler weather by the end of the week, so here’s hoping. Mark has started the fall term at U of T and everything else is quiet and normal. I’m just dreaming of the day I can start making soups and drinking tea without sweating. In the meantime, have fun looking at the selection of items I’ve put together for October.
Of all the primers I’ve tried (there have been several – I worked at Ulta way back when), Too Faced’s Primed and Poreless is my favorite. It does the best job of smoothing out your skin and providing that perfect canvas everyone’s always talking about. It also will not ball up the way some silicone-based primers do.
Netflix will release Season 2 of Stranger Things on October 27th. If you haven’t seen season 1, you may want to check it out. Horror, sci-fi, and fantasy are generally not genres that I’m even remotely interested in (with notable exceptions including Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings because come on), but this show is very well done and very entertaining. I do, however, have a few complaints about the show. I think the children in it are altogether too adult. The way the boys talk, for example, I think is too mature and not believable for their age. I also dislike the romance between Eleven and Mike. Children should not be sexualized (although this is certainly nowhere near the worst case I’ve seen). A show made for adults does not need to have a romance between two children. I still think it’s a good show, but those aspects are disappointing. If you’re looking for something Halloweeny, this show will deliver.
Eternal Optimist from Essie is one of my favorite polishes. It’s a really nice sort of nude pink. It’s incredibly versatile and will never clash with what you are wearing. The polish itself is really great quality and provides good coverage, so you won’t need more than two coats.
These pumpkin scones taste just like Starbucks’. They are extra tasty. You should make them.
L’Occitane’s Almond Shower Oil is hands down my favorite bath product. If you’re wondering exactly what it is, it’s like a shower gel, only way, WAY nicer. It’s got this decadent texture I can only describe as oily yet creamy (do not worry – it will not leave you feeling oily after you get out of the shower). It will foam up beautifully if you put it on a washcloth or loofah, but I prefer to use it on its own to preserve the texture. It also smells incredible. It’s like almonds, but also better. If you feel like this is too much of an indulgence now, coerce someone into getting it for you for Christmas. For real.
How’s your month been? I’d love to hear in the comments!
