This is the warm weather iteration of my mom uniform. This look is inspired by Jennifer Aniston. Jennifer Aniston became my fashion icon after I had Holly Baby. I wanted to be able to wear jeans and t-shirts because motherhood is messy, I needed to be able to breastfeed in whatever I was wearing, and I wanted to be comfortable. Janiston wears jeans and t-shirts all the time and still always manages to look cool and put together. So, I took some cues from her and this is the result.
To make a jeans and t-shirt look work, you need the right jeans and t-shirt.
Dark jeans are slimming, so I wear them exclusively. I also try to avoid fading and whiskering. Whiskering creates lines that go across what is very close to my widest part and the effect is regrettable. Here I’m wearing my trusty Articles of Society jeans.
I like thick t-shirts because they last longer and tend not to get those little holes right around the button of your jeans as easily. I also like shirts that are close to 100% cotton. It’s easier to make a dark t-shirt look sophisticated, but white can look really good too (assuming you and your little one(s) can keep it white). The shirt I’m wearing here is Gap.
My sandals are Rainbows. They are awesome. They are neutral, so they go with a ton of stuff, they are ridiculously comfortable, and the quality is outstanding. This will be my third summer in them and they are still in top notch condition.
The accessories make it look like a put together outfit rather than the two items at the top of the clean laundry pile.
The belt provides contrast and the braid is a nice detail. This one is Gap (see a similar one they have now here). I tuck my t-shirts in just a bit to show off my belts.
Classic aviators are always a good bet. These Quay ones are great.
This is what I look like in the summer 90% of the time. It’s easy to pull off once you have the basic pieces and then you can swap in different t-shirts and accessories. I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
